Hello all!

My name is Dane Ohlrogge and I am Assistant Director for The Dreamers.

Yesterday, Thursday September 25th, we shot three scenes totaling about 12 hours of shooting!

We started bright and early around 7:30am to shoot the scene of Kara and her roommate Eliza, played by the amazing Callie Stephens, showcasing the quirky relationship between the two.  Here is a picture of Kelsey helping us bring in some lights!

Hauling equipment up stairs is super fun!
The production had some bumps along the road as all productions do.  With some missing sound pieces, a problem with the lense, and a few parking tickets later we wrapped around 12:30pm feeling really confident about the apartment and kitchen scenes.

Later that night we went to MorseL restaurant and bar to shoot the final scenes of the pilot in the bar and restaurant area.  When the crew got there, we were informed that MorseL was officially out of business and we could run rampant around the place until as late as we needed.  As great as it is to be able to freely use a space, we were also saddened by the loss of business that is a local favorite among the crew.  We also included an actual MorseL employee, Steven, and his Chihuahua Tamar last minute.  The employees of MorseL were very welcoming and we appreciate them opening their establishment to us.

On set with Mike Hamilton and Kelsey Jorissen
From unwrapping the cables for the lights at 6:30pm we were wrapping them up from the shoot and were out of there at 1:00am.  The scenes with the talented actors went great, and we got some amazing shots.
Filming ar MorseL in Chicago, The Dreamers
Today, on September 26th we shot the final scene for the pilot episode of The Dreamers outside of the movie theatre with Kelsey, Callie and Michael.

We are officially moved onto post-production for the pilot episode and thank everyone who has donated so far to helping fund this incredible show written and directed by the amazingly talented Kelsey Jorissen.  Kelsey has worked her butt of scheduling, emailing, scheming, and memorizing to make this come to life.  As an Assistant Director I couldn't be more proud of a passionate hardworking director, and the cast and crew she leads.

Stay tuned for updates about post-production and maybe you'll get to see some stills :)

Second Day of Shooting - Success!

Flat tire won't stop this Chicago web series
We began the day with a flat tire. Yes, this girl right here changed her first flat tire. Of course thanks to patient guidance of her father and the magic of speaker-phone. Within 30 minutes we had a fully functioning car again. Just in time for a meeting with the crew!

Then after I cooked up all the bacon and the eggs the world could offer for my Director of Photography, Cisco, and my Assistant Director, Dane, we got to work. Lighting the interior of an apartment is challenging work, and after 3 hours of eating almond butter, reading and working the script- we got the shots we wanted. Kitty cat included!
Using the 6D as our go-to camera for the web series
My team and I took a short break to reset before we moved into the gym location where we will be doing a majority of our shooting. Half a pepperoni, sausage, and jalapeño pizza later we were loading in. And at 8:30pm on the mark we called action for our first shot.

Can I take a moment and just say how incredible this crew is? We did 24 shots in 4 hours. Dane kept everyone on point with his stellar organization and spot-on creative eye. Cisco got some incredible shots of our main characters and created the aesthetic tone that THE DREAMERS will continue to use.

Claude, our lighting expert, kept everyone looking sharp on camera as he tweaked and adjusted lighting for our footage. Daniel, our boom microphone operator, made sure we could hear all our lovely voices on camera.
Filming at V-Tone Fitness in Rogers Park
A HUGE thanks to Tony at V-Tone Fitness for his amazing generosity and trust in letting us use his beautiful gym space for THE DREAMERS. Without this location we wouldn't have a show at all. So thank you Tony! If you live in the Rogers Park area be sure to check out this awesome gym. They are affordable and oh so nice.

Shot list for the Chicago web series The Dreamers
Dailies from the first day
Our first day of prinicpal photography was exhilerating. We battled wind, thunderstorms, and some pretty nasty traffic, and yet we all arrived in time for our first take.

Gas: 30$

The DePaul Art Museum was kind enough to let us in at 8:30am, so the alarms didn't go off. As much as my crew and I wanted to stage a museum heist, we knew filming was our priority today.

Location fee: 75$

On set we had the fabulous talents of Tosha Fowler and Will Von Vogt, two actors that I met through my alma mater at DePaul's Theatre School. They are both fiercly talented performers and bring the opening moments of THE DREAMERS in with a bang.

Talent: 50$

It's nearly impossible for me to pick a favorite moment from today, but if I had to it would be when we had our Director of Photography, Cisco Corral, being pushed in a wheelchair (otherwise known as a poor-man's camera dolley,) across the gallery for our tracking shots. Dane Ohlrogge, who worked second camera for us today, was wheeling Cisco back and forth about 30 times. I couldn't stop giggling, but we got the shot we wanted!

Director of Photography: 100$. Second Camera Operator: 50$

After we got the shots our hearts desired we realized we were famished! None of us had eaten because we were too excited to take a break. When we got that last shot for the day our tummies were rumbling. Hellooooo Trader Joe's Snackies.

Food: 50$

And when we got back to watch the footage we got today we saw we hit 416$ here on Seed and Spark.

Your contribution: Priceless.

Keep on spreading the word for THE DREAMERS. Help us break even on our next shoot, and even better help us reach our goal by Nov 1st!

Filming in Chicago
Hello you wonderful people you,

Tomorrow we start principal photography.

Our cameras are packed, our lenses are cleaned, all of our shot lists have that just-printed sheen.

We've readied our actors, we've locked down our location, not to mention a stop at the gas station.

In exactly 8 hours we will be all systems go. Those slates will be poised, those boom mics a loft,  a happy director, DP, and second cam op.

So in turn we thank you, our loyal supporters. Today we reached 1% of our goal, and I know we be 100% come November in full.
